Simmons is incredibly diverse and is capable of doing pretty much anything a defensive coordinator wants of him, as he has experience playing linebacker, safety, and even slot cornerback. He is primarily, however, a linebacker. He has the athleticism and size to play all of these positions, as he is 6' 4'' 238 lbs but runs a 4.39 40 yard dash. That is linebacker size and the speed of a corner or safety on the faster side. Simmons obviously specializes in coverage from the linebacker position, and he is so good that he can play in the secondary, meaning he can take away the opposing team's tight end or running back. In today's NFL where tight ends are heavily involved in the passing game, that is vital, and there is really no player in the NFL like Simmons in the sense that they have the speed, size, and coverage ability to cover tight ends like Travis Kelce or George Kittle 1-on-1. He can also be a quarterback spy to take care of guys like Lamar Jackson and Deshaun Watson when they look to run, essentially forcing them to pass. Simmons is also great at blitzing, and because of his coverage abilities that would make it very easy to run disguised blitzes and catch the quarterback completely off guard. Against the run Simmons is solid but he doesn't have the best instincts and therefore can be misdirected easily, but he can work on improving that over time. Overall, Simmons is an athletic freak capable of doing everything for the defense and offers something literally no other player in the NFL can that will help transform a defense to face the offensive threats of today's NFL, so he will likely end up being an All-Pro caliber player for a long time.

Analytics-Based Prospect Grade: 96
