Justin Herbert
QB, Oregon
Draft Projection: Top-10
NFL Comparison: Matthew Stafford
Justin Herbert has a ton of talent but has many technical problems. He has ideal NFL size and elite arm strength. Herbert has good feet and has shown the ability to put good touch on the ball when throwing. He is also very mobile and has been able to make good throws on the run at times. Herbert has demonstrated all the physical traits necessary to be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Herbert's problems, however, start with the fact that despite his tremendous talent he hasn't had a ton of incredible plays like you see with similar talents like Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, and Matthew Stafford. Herbert was also very inconsistent in his accuracy and anticipation when in college, but that can be corrected with good coaching. He also has a very odd throwing motion, as he takes a very long to wind up the throw and looks like he is aiming when throwing rather than just cutting it loose. It almost looks robotic. This has likely contributed to some of his accuracy issues, as it just seems like he is uncomfortable and making unnatural throws. Herbert's throwing motion will make it hard to throw under heavy pressure and get the ball out quick if not corrected. Overall, Herbert has the physical traits to be a great quarterback but needs to be coached up in order to become the star he can be.
