Austin Hooper

TE, Browns

1200px-U+25CB.svg.png

Austin Hooper was having a great season last year before getting hurt with 75 receptions for 787 yards and 6 touchdowns in 13 games (92 receptions for 969 yards and 7 touchdowns over the course of an entire season). The issue is that Hooper is going from an offense with Matt Ryan, who loves to throw to his tight ends, to a Browns offense that will feature Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, and fellow tight end David Njoku. Baker Mayfield doesn’t throw to the tight end nearly as often as Ryan did, and with so many great players around him Hooper simply isn’t going to see the volume necessary to be a good starter. Hooper’s stat line will likely look more similar to his lines from 2017 (49 receptions for 526 yards and 3 touchdowns) and 2018 (71 receptions for 660 yards and 4 touchdowns) than last year, so he is worth drafting as a very low-end starter or backup in the double-digit rounds.
