Carson Wentz

QB, Eagles

1200px-U+25CB.svg.png

Carson Wentz was very good last year with 4,039 passing yards, 27 passing touchdowns, and 7 interceptions along with 243 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdowns. Wentz finished in the top-10 fantasy quarterbacks with one of the most injured receiving cores we’ve ever seen, so next year he has a chance to take a major step up. The Eagles saw Alshon Jeffery miss 6 games, DeSean Jackson miss 13 games, Zach Ertz miss 1 game and play through injuries for pretty much the entire season, and Nelson Agholor miss 5 games. Carson Wentz was the first quarterback to ever throw for 4,000 yards without having a single wide receiver go over 500 receiving yards. Now all of those players are going to be healthy (except maybe Jeffery who could miss some time this year), JJ Arcega-Whiteside will have had another year to develop, and the Eagles added Jalen Reagor in the first round of the draft. This will be a completely different receiving core, and Wentz has the chance to return to his 2017 form. People seem to forget how good Wentz was back then because he was very mediocre in 2018, but he was coming back from a very late-season torn ACL. Most players in that situation wouldn’t play their best either. Even Tom Brady had a bad season by his standards coming off his torn ACL in 2009. Last year Wentz was two years removed from the ACL and was incredibly good considering how bad the receiving core was. Obviously the big concern with Wentz is his durability. He is probably the least durable quarterback in the league and is likely to miss some time. With quarterback, however, that isn’t as big of a deal because the position is so deep. If you draft Wentz just get a good backup and you should be fine if he misses a game or two. If he and his receivers can stay healthy, Wentz has upside as high as almost every quarterback in the league, so he is worth drafting in the eighth or ninth round.
