Chris Carson

RB, Seahawks

Chris Carson is one of the more underrated running backs in fantasy this year. He is a great runner, as he is third in the NFL in missed tackles forced on runs since 2017 and most rushing yards after contact last year. Carson gets good volume as well, as he had 16+ touches in 93% of his games (not counting week 16 when he left in the second quarter after getting injured) and 18+ touches in 86% of his games. Carson was able to produce good numbers (1,496 yards from scrimmage, 9 total touchdowns, and 37 receptions in 14.5 games) despite being in a committee with Rashaad Penny. Penny tore his ACL late last season so he will likely start the season on the PUP list, making Carson the exclusive back for at least six games. If Penny fails to return to form or get healthy, Carson has RB1 upside because he could get 20+ touches per game in a very good offense. Carlos Hyde is there, but since he and Carson have a similar skill set it’s hard to see him getting a lot of work unless Carson suddenly fails to perform at a high level. Overall, Carson is being undervalued in fantasy this year and is worth drafting as early as the mid third round.
