Christian McCaffrey

RB, Panthers

Christian McCaffrey was insane last year, and all signs point to him doing the same next year. He is the best receiving running back in the NFL, as he had 107 catches last year. The Panthers have openly said they plan on taking McCaffrey off the field for unnecessary snaps while still increasing his total touches from a year ago, which means he might be able to improve upon his performance last year. There are two main concerns with McCaffrey, however. The first is his size, as he is only about 208 pounds even with the extra weight he added this offseason. Nobody can know for sure whether or not he will be able to handle 300+ touches two seasons in a row when he is that small, and that makes him an injury concern. The second concern with McCaffrey is Cam Newton's shoulder. Last year, Cam Newton was banged up for the second half of the season and that was when McCaffrey really broke out. Couldn't throw the ball as often or as far, resulting in more dump-offs to McCaffrey and more runs. If Newton's shoulder is better, McCaffrey might not get those extra touches. On top of that, Newton is the Panthers' main goal-line runner, but with his injury, McCaffrey got the majority of the goal-line work last year. If Newton is better, McCaffrey won't be able to score as many touchdowns because Newton would start to get those touches, limiting McCaffrey's upside. McCaffrey is still going to post elite numbers, but his upside isn't as high as some of the other top options at running back.
