D’Andre Swift

RB, Lions

1200px-U+25CB.svg.png

D’Andre Swift is going to be the lead running back for the Lions this year. He will likely take over Kerryon Johnson’s old role with the team while Johnson becomes more of a backup and change-of-pace back for the Lions. Swift is more talented than Johnson was, and we saw what Kerryon Johnson was capable of doing with the Lions when healthy (854 yards from scrimmage, 4 total touchdowns, and 32 receptions in his first 10 games). Johnson’s problem was always that he couldn’t stay healthy, so the Lions shifted gears and drafted Swift. The Lions love to run a backfield by committee, so Swift won’t be a workhorse and will likely only get 12-15 touches per game, which will limit his upside. If Kerryon Johnson ends up getting injured once again however, then Swift could see a very large role in this Lions offense. Regardless, Swift should be an efficient running back with a fair number of touches and good upside, so he is worth drafting in the late fifth or early sixth rounds.
