D.K. Metcalf

WR, Seahawks

D.K. Metcalf is a very high-risk, high-reward type of player. He is a freakish athlete with the potential to become a top-5 receiver, especially with Rusell Wilson throwing him passes, but he will need to improve a lot in order to actually be a viable fantasy option. Last year Metcalf exceeded expectations with 58 receptions for 900 yards and 7 touchdowns. Those aren’t the best rookie numbers but Metcalf was looked at as more of a raw prospect who wouldn’t produce a ton as a rookie coming into the draft. The thing is, Metcalf wasn’t as good as his stats may show. First of all, Metcalf had 100 targets and only 58 receptions. In addition, he had eight drops and only 1.69 yards per route run. Metcalf wasn’t actually an incredibly polished player but Seattle forced him the ball and his athleticism allowed him to turn that into decent production. In order for Metcalf to reach his full potential he will need to develop much more, and it seems like that development could still be a year out, especially with limited offseason programs. If Metcalf doesn’t see a lot of development he will likely end the year with similar numbers to last year, which are far from elite fantasy numbers. Overall, Metcalf’s incredible upside makes him worth drafting as a low-end WR2 or high-end WR3, but he is not worth drafting at his current ADP and makes sense starting in the sixth round.
