Damien Williams

RB, Chiefs

1200px-U+25CB.svg.png

Williams was great towards the end of last season when he replaced Kareem Hunt, and he is going to be the main back in the Chiefs offense. His upside is enormous because of the Chiefs' elite offense. He will have a ton of scoring opportunities and get the ball a ton if the Chiefs are destroying opponents. The issue with Williams is that he hasn't proven how good he can be for an entire season. Sure he was good at the end of last year, but before that he'd been a backup for his entire career. That could have been a fluke. The Chiefs are also a very pass-oriented offense so Williams might not get a ton of work. He is the main pass-catching back, but Patrick Mahomes doesn't love to dump the ball off and there are a ton of mouths to feed in that offense. Williams is the fourth-best option behind Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, and Sammy Watkins, so there's no guarantee he gets a large workload. Additionally, Carlos Hyde is there and he seems to be a better fit to be the goal-line back, so Williams might not even score a ton of touchdowns, which is where essentially all of his value is from. Overall, Williams has a very high ceiling because he is in a great offense but there is a decent chance he ends up becoming a bust, so draft him with caution in the third round or later.
