Devonta Freeman

RB, Falcons

Freeman is now the main running back with the Falcons after Tevin Coleman left in free agency, meaning there is a chance he could return to his production in 2015 and 2016 now that he is recovered from last year's injuries. There are three main issues with Freeman, however. The first is the fact that Ito Smith is still in Atlanta and the Falcons are planning to use him as the primary pass-catching back, which limits Freeman's upside as a receiver. He might end up being a pure runner for the Falcons this year. The second is that Dirk Koetter is back as offensive coordinator for the Falcons. The only year Freeman had Koetter as a coordinator was his rookie season when he recorded only 248 total yards. Granted, part of the reason his production was low was because he was a rookie, but to see such a massive jump in production after Koetter left means that Koetter's departure definitely played a role. Koetter was never really able to give the Falcons a good run game and when he moved to Tampa Bay it was the same thing, so Freeman's upside is definitely hurt by his arrival. Third is that Freeman is an injury risk. Dr. Jessie Morse (a real doctor) gives Freeman a 7/10 injury rating, meaning he has a 70% chance of getting injured this year. He is likely to miss at least one game and possibly more. Freeman's running style puts him at risk because he runs like a power back even though he's only 209 pounds. Overall, Freeman has a ton of red flags that put him at serious risk of becoming a bust, but he still has a chance to return to his elite fantasy form because he's fully healthy (for now) and Tevin Coleman is gone.
