Drew Brees

QB, Saints

1200px-U+25CB.svg.png

Drew Brees was very good last year when he played. In his 10 full games Brees had 2,941 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. He also added a rushing touchdown. That equates to 4,706 yards, 43 passing touchdowns, 5 interceptions, and 2 rushing touchdowns over the course of an entire season. That would have made Brees the QB2 last year. Those are elite numbers that anyone would be happy with, but now Brees comes with some risk. Brees is now 41 and has already announced that he plans to retire following the season. He pissed off a lot of teammates with some comments he made about kneeling during the national anthem, and no matter your viewpoint on the matter you have to agree that it will cause some tension in the locker room. Despite these concerns, the risk is well worth the reward, especially at Brees’s price. The Saints added Emmanuel Sanders and Adam Trautman to the receiving core and Alvin Kamara will be fully healthy, so Brees has plenty of upside. The fact that Drew Brees is 41 doesn’t mean he can’t produce at a high level. Brees doesn’t have the arm he once had, but the Saints offense is built around short passes anyway. Overall, Drew Brees is being very undervalued in fantasy this year and is worth drafting as a high-upside quarterback if the top options are gone.
