George Kittle

TE, 49ers

George Kittle was phenomenal last year. He set the single-season record for receiving yards for a tight end with C.J. Bethard and Nick Mullens throwing him the ball. Jimmy Garoppolo is now healthy, so Kittle will have an actual quarterback this season, giving him the upside of the top tight end in fantasy. In terms of upside alone, Kittle has the same ceiling as Travis Kelce, which is the greatest season for a tight end in NFL history, but Kittle comes with some risk. Kittle might not mesh well with Jimmy Garoppolo, as in the three games Kittle played with Garoppolo last season he had 12 catches for 191 yards and no touchdowns (64 catches for 1,019 yards and no touchdowns over the course of an entire season) which is worse than the stat line he had at the end of the year. This likely won't be the case but there is still a chance it is. The primary concern with Kittle is that the 49ers added weapons in the offseason. Dante Pettis is now a starter and the 49ers drafted both Deebo Samuel and Jalen Hurd. These additions could cause Kittle to see fewer targets, but with the addition of Tevin Coleman, the 49ers overall offense will be better, giving Kittle more touchdown upside. Overall, Kittle comes with some risk that lowers his floor, but he has insane upside, so he should no doubt be the second tight end drafted regardless of format.
