Hunter Henry

TE, Chargers

1200px-U+25CB.svg.png

Hunter Henry is coming off a torn ACL, but he suffered it during the summer, so he will be 100% because he's had so long to heal. Henry had decent stats in his first two seasons, but that was with Antonio Gates still on the Chargers. Now Gates is gone, so Henry is the clear-cut top option in an offense that's going to pass the ball a ton, especially if Melvin Gordon's holdout lasts into the season. If you combine Henry's stats with Gates's stats in Henry's first two years you get 164 catches for 1,921 yards and 22 touchdowns. That averages out to 82 catches for 960 yards and 11 touchdowns over the course of a season. Those would be elite stats for a fantasy tight end, and Henry might do better. Henry was much better than Gates when they played (not all-time just when they were both on the field and Gates was super old) so if he got the same volume he'd likely be more efficient. On top of that, if Melvin Gordon's holdout lasts into the season the Chargers will be throwing more than they did in both of Henry's first two seasons, so he could do better. If Gordon were to miss time, Henry would be the top red-zone option in an elite offense, giving him tremendous touchdown upside. Overall, with Antonio Gates gone and Melvin Gordon potentially holding out into the season, Henry has the upside of a top-tier fantasy tight end.
