Jameis Winston
QB, Buccaneers
Let's be very clear: Jameis Winston is not a very good quarterback. Though this is the case, from a fantasy perspective, he has top-3 upside. This is because Winston is a gunslinger with one of the league's best receiving cores, so he is going to get a ton of yards and touchdowns while throwing a ton of interceptions. In 9.5 games as a starter (there were two games in which Ryan Fitzpatrick was benched for Winston and one game where Winston was benched for Fitzpatrick, so he had 3 half games), Winston threw for 2,992 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. Over the course of an entire season that would end up being 5,039 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions. If you simply combine Winston and Fitzpatrick's stat totals (this gives the most accurate representation of how much Winston would play) you would get 5,358 yards (which would lead the league), 36 touchdowns, and 26 interceptions. That would end up being the second-best quarterback in normal scoring behind only Patrick Mahomes. If you play in a league in which interceptions lose you more than two points, Winston isn't a quarterback to target. In a standard league in which interceptions lose two points, Winston should be drafted as the quarterback 12. In a league in which interceptions only lose one point, Winston should probably go before Cam Newton, especially if it's 6-points per passing touchdown. Obviously, there is no way Winston gets the numbers that he was on track to get over the course of an entire season or the numbers you would get by combining him and Fitzpatrick because the Buccaneers lost DeSean Jackson and Adam Humphries. He will, however, still be able to be very productive because he still has one of the league's best receiving cores, so draft accordingly.
