James Conner

RB, Steelers

1200px-U+25CB.svg.png

James Conner was a massive disappointment last year, but he comes with obvious upside as the top running back for the Steelers. Conner hasn’t looked the same after a leg injury in 2018 and has struggled to stay healthy throughout his entire career (he’s never played a full 16 game season). At the same time, the Steelers were willing to give him another shot as the starting running back, so there’s reason for optimism. Now that Ben Roethlisberger is back the offense will be back to normal and Conner should have more running room because defenses will be more focused on stopping the pass. He will also have more touchdown upside in the improved offense. If Roethlisberger’s injury was the reason Conner wasn’t great last year, he could return to 2018 form assuming he stays healthy, but that’s a big if. Overall, Conner is a big risk, but he could be a huge payoff in the long run, so he is worth drafting if he is available in the fourth round if you are willing to take a risk.
