Melvin Gordon
RB, Chargers
When Melvin Gordon plays, he is in the same tier as the top four running backs. He scores a ton of touchdowns and gets a ton of yards. There are two issues with Gordon, however. The first is the fact that he is holding out for a new contract. The Chargers don't appear to be budging, so it is very possible that Gordon sits out until week 10. He would need to return by then to get credit for this year and become a free agent next year, so that's the latest he would hold out. Another possible scenario is that Gordon returns before week one and tries to have a career year so he can get the contract he is looking for next year. An unlikely scenario is that Gordon gets his contract from the Chargers and everything is fine. The most likely scenario at this point seems to be Gordon holding out until week 10, as reports are stating that Gordon is likely to miss games. Even if he misses this time Gordon has some value because he will be available for multiple games including the fantasy playoffs, but if a high pick misses that many games you might not have a chance at the playoffs. The second issue with Gordon is his injury concerns. He missed four games last year and has only played a full season once in his four-year career. Overall, Gordon has the upside of the best running back in fantasy, but his holdout should prevent you from considering him until the fifth round.
