Melvin Gordon

RB, Broncos

1200px-U+25CB.svg.png

Melvin Gordon is no longer the elite running back he once was, but he is still a very solid player and will have a pretty big role in this Broncos offense. Phillip Lindsay will still be heavily involved so Gordon won’t be a workhorse, but he will be the primary receiving option and goal line back for the Broncos. Both Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman have been very bad as receivers, and Gordon has proved that he is more than capable of being one of the better receiving backs in the NFL. Phillip Lindsay, despite not being a great receiver, has gotten over 45 targets in each of his two seasons, so we can expect Gordon to get somewhere closer to 60 or 70. This is going to be a much improved Broncos offense as well, and since Gordon will be the goal line back don’t be surprised if he is able to get double digit touchdowns. The issue is that Phillip Lindsay and Gordon will likely split work on the ground, so Gordon isn’t going to have the rushing upside he once had. He should still get around 500-600 yards on the ground, however. Melvin Gordon isn’t worth drafting in the third round, but he could be a value in the fourth if he is still available because he should have around 1,100-1,200 yards from scrimmage, over 50 receptions, and a lot of touchdowns.
