Todd Gurley

RB, Rams

Todd Gurley is a risky pick, but he also offers very high upside. Gurley was on his way to one of the best fantasy seasons ever last year before suffering a knee injury. He missed the last two games of the season before playing in the playoffs. In both the NFC Championship and Super Bowl, there was something wrong with him and his trainer later confirmed that he has arthritis in his knee. This issue with this statement is that it's very broad. Nobody really knows how much this will impact him moving forward. Every NFL player has arthritis in one of their joints, as stated by Reggie Bush on NFL Total Access. Every player that tore their ACL has arthritis in their knee just like Gurley, who has had arthritis for his entire NFL career, but Gurley's arthritis appears to be more severe now than ever before. The Rams have stated that they are going to be lowering Gurley's workload, and that was backed up by the fact that they drafted Darrell Henderson in the third round. This means Gurley isn't going to be the same fantasy player as he has been in the past because he isn't going to be getting the ball as much. Though this lowers his upside, nobody knows how much Gurley's workload will decrease. If he only loses a couple touches a game and remains the main option in the red zone, Gurley could still be the best running back in fantasy. If he loses half of his touches he might not even be a starting-caliber player, making him very risky. On top of that, there is a chance Gurley's knee inflames at any time during the season, which would cause him to miss time. Overall, nobody knows exactly what is happening with Gurley, so there is a chance he busts. However, his upside is too high to ignore, so draft him with caution in the second round or later.
