Travis Kelce

TE, Chiefs

Travis Kelce has been the top tight end in fantasy in three of the last four seasons and finished in second place to Rob Gronkowski in the other. He has been incredibly safe, consistent, durable, and offers remarkable upside. The Chiefs didn’t add anyone to their receiver group so Kelce should still see a similar number of targets. He should also have a better year with Patrick Mahomes fully healthy. Kelce only scored six total touchdowns last year (5 in the air and one on the ground) as the top red-zone target in the league’s best passing offense, so expect him to see positive regression and end up with 8-10. There is an argument to be made that George Kittle is a better tight end in real life, but Kelce makes much more sense in fantasy because he gets more volume and scores more touchdowns. The thing that makes Kelce so valuable is the fact that he is a tight end because he puts up numbers that would be elite for a receiver but offers them in a position where players typically don’t produce even close to receiver-type numbers on a consistent basis (with the exception of Kittle). At the same time, early-round running backs have more positional value than top tight ends so they make more sense if a good one is available. Overall, Travis Kelce is almost a guarantee to get 90+ catches for 1,000+ yards and 5+ touchdowns with the upside of having the greatest fantasy season for a tight end ever, so he is worth drafting in the second round.
