Mac Jones is incredibly underrated and, in all honesty, should be regarded as highly as Joe Burrow was a year ago. Jones is a pocket passer who is exceptionally accurate, can throw under pressure, and has great pocket awareness. He has an incredibly high football IQ and can read the defense with ease. It helps that he has a photographic memory. Jones is one of the most polished and efficient quarterbacks to come out of college in a very long time. He is also very hard working and is a great leader who has proven that he can win on the biggest stage. Jones is also an underrated athlete. He has above-average arm strength and ran a 4.79 40 yard dash at his pro day (a similar time to Patrick Mahomes). Mac Jones is incredible when it comes to advanced stats. He broke the record for the highest QBR in college football history, with a 96.1, beating out Joe Burrow and Kyler Murray. Both of those guys have obviously been fantastic in the NFL. He also broke the record for completion percentage, with 77% (which is practically unheard of) and was PFF’s highest graded quarterback ever with a grade of 95.8. Jones does come with some red flags, however. With the way the game is trending, pocket passers are starting to become somewhat of a relic. Jones has some athleticism, but he isn’t the same caliber athlete as the best young quarterbacks we see today, as he isn’t incredibly fast, isn’t great throwing on the run, and doesn’t have an elite arm by any means. He may be able to have similar success to guys like Joe Burrow, however, who aren’t incredibly athletic but good enough to get the job done. In addition, Jones played at Alabama with an incredible supporting cast made up of numerous first round picks. He very well might have been elevated by his group of skill players and offensive line, so when he gets to the NFL, he could see a massive dropoff. At the same time, Joe Burrow had that same issue coming out of college and he ended up just fine. Overall, Mac Jones is a great player who could end up looking like Joe Burrow or Baker Mayfield on the next level. He is incredibly accurate, efficient, and polished and possesses the intangible traits that have made quarterbacks successful in the past. He gets overly criticized for his lack of athleticism, when in reality, he is fully capable of getting outside the pocket and running with the ball. Jones does come with some concerns since he went to Alabama and had an elite supporting cast, but he has the chance to become a fantastic player in the NFL.

Analytics-Based Prospect Grade: 95.7
