Trey Lance is a big quarterback who has incredible potential but is still very raw. He is great on designed quarterback runs and has a very strong arm. Lance is very good in the pocket and takes what the defense gives him, which helps him to avoid turnovers. He has great touch and is able to change ball velocity when necessary. Lance has accuracy issues, however, mostly on deep passes. In addition, he is incredibly raw, as he has only started in 17 games. Lance also hasn’t played against a high level of competition in college. The result is that Lance is a pretty risky prospect who will need time to develop. Ideally, Lance will go somewhere with an established veterin at quarterback who he can learn under. He should sit out for his first year similar to Patrick Mahomes before taking over in year two. Overall, Trey Lance has all the tools necessary to become an elite quarterback in the NFL, but the combination of his rawness as a prospect and the fact that he hasn’t competed against a high level of competition make him risky. Lance seems very similar to Josh Allen coming out of college. Both are freak athletes, but very raw, have accuracy issues, and come from small colleges that don’t go up against high levels of competition. The team that drafts Lance will hope he turns out like Allen did.

Analytics-Based Prospect Grade: 95.86
