Adam Trautman

TE, Saints

1200px-U+25CB.svg.png

Adam Trautman is taking over as the top tight end on the Saints with Jared Cook now gone, but the departure of Drew Brees isn’t good for him. Brees loved to throw the ball to tight ends, but Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill are both stronger in other areas. Winston is more of a deep ball thrower and Taysom Hill is obviously a scrambling quarterback who isn’t very strong through the air. Both options would limit his upside. The good news for Trautman is that with Michael Thomas gone, there is plenty of room for him to take a massive portion of the target share. He may end up seeing a ton of volume. This offense as a whole will probably struggle, however, which limits Trautman’s touchdown upside and means he will be on the field less often. It also means Trautman will be inconsistent because there will be some games where the Saints are simply not moving the ball. Overall, Adam Trautman has good upside because he has a chance to carve out a large role in the Saints offense, but he’s a risky player because we don’t know what this offense will look like and Trautman is a largely unproven player. He’s a high-risk, high-reward option.
