Darrell Henderson

RB, Rams

With Cam Akers out for the year and Malcolm Brown no longer in Los Angeles, Darrell Henderson now appears to be the top running back on the Rams. Los Angeles went out and traded for Sony Michel, but Henderson will still be the top running back in this offense. Sony Michel has a big name because of the fact that he was drafted in the first round and had an incredible postseason the year the Patriots last won the Super Bowl, but he isn't actually very good. When Michel was productive, it was largely due to New England's elite offensive line; he didn't actually make many people miss. He's still going to get touches, but this is Henderson's backfield. Now that Matthew Stafford is there, the Rams seem primed to be one of the top offenses in the NFL. The better the offense is, the better the running back will do in fantasy because it means more time on the field and more red zone opportunities. It also means there will be quite a few games where the Rams are up big and simply run out the clock with Henderson. Darrell Henderson isn’t an elite player by any means, but he also wasn’t terrible last year. Henderson had 16 receptions with 783 yards from scrimmage and six total touchdowns in 15 games last year. And that was while competing with Cam Akers and Malcolm Brown. Expect Henderson to have well over 1,000 yards from scrimmage and score a ton of touchdowns because the Rams love to use their running backs in the red zone. If you combine the touchdown numbers for Henderson, Akers, and Brown last year you would get 16. Henderson won’t get all of them, but around 12 touchdowns seems perfectly reasonable for him. Overall, Darrell Henderson has decent upside, but he is also pretty risky as a guy who’s never been a workhorse and who could be easily replaced by a veteran that outperforms him given how mediocre of a player he is.
