David Montgomery

RB, Bears

1200px-U+25CB.svg.png

David Montgomery somehow finished as the RB4 in fantasy last year. He was incredible down the stretch. In his last 6 games Montgomery had 824 yards from scrimmage, 24 catches, and 8 total touchdowns. That would be 2,197 yards from scrimmage, 64 catches, and 21 total touchdowns over the course of an entire 16-game season. Montgomery was, however, going up against some of the worst run defenses in the NFL during this stretch. Tarik Cohen also missed virtually the entire year, so Montgomery was the workhorse. Montgomery wasn’t actually efficient with his touches, but he got the ball so much that he was still able to be productive. Tarik Cohen will take most of the receiving work and some of the running work from Montgomery when he’s on the field. The thing is that there is a lot of pessimism surrounding Tarik Cohen’s recovery. He apparently isn’t feeling good, so he’ll miss time. Montgomery isn’t going to get the total volume that he saw last year once Cohen is back, but if Cohen misses a major portion of the season, David Montgomery will get the same volume at first. Cohen should be back by the fantasy playoffs, however, so Montgomery will be more of an early-season star. When you combine Cohen’s potential return with the increased difficulty of Montgomery’s schedule, Montgomery is going to drop off this season, but he can still be a really good fantasy option this year.
