George Kittle

TE, 49ers

George Kittle is the last of the top-3 tight ends and is an elite option regardless of format. Kittle is arguably the best all-around tight end in the NFL due to his incredible blocking skills, but he is riskier than the other two top players for a few reasons. First of all, injuries have been a problem for Kittle. He has only played one full 16 game season in his career and missed half of the season last year. Kittle also might see a slight drop in production because the 49ers have brought in more weapons, so Kittle could see fewer targets. Trey Lance also has a chance to eventually take over this year, but the 49ers might opt to red-shirt him for the entire season. If Lance does take over, he and Kittle might lack the chemistry that Kittle has established with Jimmy Garoppolo, which could hurt Kittle’s production. Kittle has also struggled to score a lot of touchdowns, with 5 being his career-high, and he doesn’t catch as many passes as Travis Kelce and Darren Waller (88 catches is his career-high). All of these issues should keep Kittle below Kelce and Waller, but his talent is undeniable. Kittle had 1,000+ yards in 2018 and 2019 and was on track to have 1,000+ yards again last year if he played 16 games. He’s an elite option and significantly better than every tight end not in the top-3 and is worth a mid-2nd round pick.
