Irv Smith

TE, Vikings

Irv Smith has the chance to have a breakout season now that Kyle Rudolph is no longer in Minnesota. Smith has been decent in his first two seasons, but he wasn’t the sole tight end in this Vikings offense. In four games without Rudolph on the field last year, Smith had 15 catches for 183 yards and 3 touchdowns. That would end up being 60 catches for 732 yards and 12 touchdowns over the course of an entire season. Those are TE1 numbers and would have made Smith the third best tight end in fantasy last year, regardless of format. Smith is looking very likely to become a top-5 fantasy tight end next year. The sample size is obviously small, but he’s in an offense that loves to use tight ends in the red zone and he has proven to be a productive player, so he should be drafted as a TE1 in fantasy who has a chance to lead all tight ends in touchdowns this year. Smith has a knee injury that will cause him to miss the start of the season, but his late-season upside is why you'll be drafting him. Make sure to draft a solid tight end to fill in for Smith while he's out, but Irv Smith is still a good pick.
