Matthew Stafford

QB, Rams

1200px-U+25CB.svg.png

Matthew Stafford has always been an incredibly talented player, but being on the Lions has limited his upside. He’s now in a significantly better situation with Sean McVay calling the shots and a good receiving core made up of Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, and DeSean Jackson amongst others. Stafford showed his potential in 2019 when he was on track for almost 5,000 yards and 38 touchdowns before injuring his back. And that was with the Lions. He was a disappointment last year, however, so it’s worth wondering whether or not that back injury has altered his career trajectory. The Rams were still willing to give up a ton to get him, so they clearly see the potential, but Stafford is a pretty risky player. Combine his drop in production last year with the fact that he’s in a new system with new players, and there’s a chance that he falls completely flat. Stafford has great upside, however, as there’s a chance that Sean McVay is able to unlock his potential and Stafford takes advantage of the Rams’ receiving core. Consider him a high-end QB2 with the upside to become a QB1.
